Rassing’s Lonoir Livs in Good Hands with

Neue Schule Best Hands Award Winner Olivia LaGoy-Welz

Wellington, FL (February 20, 2015)— “I really love my horses. I never want to be tough on their mouths and I never need to be,” says Neue Schule Bits’ user Olivia LaGoy-Welz of LivDressage. Lagoy-Welz’s soft hands and seat, and the resulting beautiful frame on her Rassing’s Lonoir in the FEI Prix St Georges and Intermediare I classes aptly earned her the Neue Schule Bits Best Hands Award at the 2015 Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida.

The 2014 Palm Beach Derby CDI Small Tour winner, who owns and operates LivDressage in Middleburg, VA, says her equine partner Rassing’s Lonoir—affectionately called Lono— “has been a really good boy. Last year was his ‘break out’ season and the shows this year have been going really well so far,” she said. The ten-year-old Danish Warmblood (De Noir x Loran) has been rising to the top since his top-three placing in the 2014 Intermediare USEF Festival of Champions, and exhibiting an equally consistent flourish at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. The pair has earned reserve honors in the FEI Open Prix St George (71.947 percent) and FEI Open Intermediare Freestyle (74.20 percent), and third (72.921 percent) in the FEI Open Intermediare I. More than once, the Wellington judges’ score cards reflected individual scores of better than 75 percent.

“Lono and I have been together since he was seven. He was originally bought as one of those ‘project horses’ that you take a chance on, and he has proven he was a chance worth taking. He is an exceptionally sensitive, athletic, and sweet horse who loves his time in the field as much as he loves his work,” she said.

Mette Larsen, founder and president of Metlar Premium Performance Saddlery, the North American distributors of Neue Schule Bits, was happy to award LaGoy-Welz with the Best Hands Award and a new pair of Neue Schule reins to further reward the rider’s lines of insightful communication. “I use Neue Schule Bits a lot,” Lagoy-Welz said.

“When we choose the rider to honor with the Best Hands Award, we’re looking for a rider that understands and demonstrates how soft, steady hands and a well-fitting bit results in a happier horse who is better able to perform because they understand what the rider is asking for. It’s very important to us to choose riders who are good to their horses ,” Larsen said. The Neue Schule Best Hands Award is presented to riders who demonstrate effective and soft hands while competing at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, which continues through March 29 and features eight CDIs (including five CDI-Ws, one 4*, and one 5*), the only non-championship CDIO Nations Cup in the Western Hemisphere, and weekly U.S. National events.

“We provide the bits and leave the rest in the rider’s hands,” Larsen explained. “The Global Dressage Festival provides a great opportunity to support the dressage community and applaud riders who have exceptional ‘hands’, because even a superbly crafted bit is only as good as the hands that guide it.”

Neue Schule Bits offer innovative designs that promote comfort, softness, and relaxation in the mouth and are endorsed by professional dressage riders including Steffen and Shannon Peters, Laura Graves, David Marcus, Karen Pavicic, and Mikala Munter Gundersen. In addition to its ergonomic fit based on the actual anatomy of the horse’s head,  Neue Schule Bits are constructed of a patented metal alloy called Salox Gold ®, offering the highest thermal conductivity (meaning the bit metal quickly reaches the same temperature as a horse’s mouth) and zero bioavailability, eliminating distracting tastes in the mouth and promoting comfort, relaxation and softness.
